I had a few minutes to sit down with Joseph Kingsley, playing George Murchison in The Actors’ Group production of A Raisin in the Sun. We talked a little about his character in this play.
Joseph, you said you were excited to play George Murchison. Can you tell me why?
Joseph Kingsley was born on October 22, 1985, at 12:55 am in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He lived there with his mother until the age of five. Due to extenuating circumstances, his mother decided they should move, so in 1990 they moved to a small town called Laurel in the state of Delaware. He resided in Laurel until the age of 20.
Shortly after his 20th birthday, Kingsley joined the United States Navy. An early frocking program allowed Joseph to attain the rank of E-4 within a year. Upon completion of technical training, Kingsley was station on board the USS Paul Hamilton in Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. Some time after, Kingsley earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) Pin, and received an Honorable discharge in November, 2010.
In January 2011, Kingsley began his bachelor degree program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Kingsley majored in Communicology and minored in theater. In late 2012 Kingsley began private acting classes with Sally Jackson in pursuant of a career in acting. One of Kingsley’s most exciting moments was being on set at Hawaii 5-O.
